THE GAF CERTIFIED PLUS™ DIFFERENCE

Silver Pledge™—explained clearly.

GAF Certified Plus contractors can offer the Silver Pledge Limited Warranty. It builds on System Plus and adds limited coverage for certain installation errors on qualifying GAF products and covered flashings.

We can discuss and offer this enhanced limited warranty when the specific roof system and all GAF requirements qualify.

What Silver Pledge adds

GAF describes Silver Pledge as providing the coverage in System Plus, plus limited misapplication coverage for certain GAF products and covered flashing locations. It is not a blanket promise that every roof issue or component is covered.

Eligible contractor: GAF Certified Plus™ or Master Elite® for Silver Pledge.
Qualifying system: Any GAF Timberline® shingle and at least four qualifying GAF accessory products, per GAF’s current comparison guide.
Workmanship period is product-specific: GAF’s current guide lists 10 years for Timberline HDZ® and 15 years for Timberline UHDZ® under Silver Pledge.
Registration required: GAF says enhanced warranties are registered by the contractor; homeowners should receive the warranty and registration. Contact GAF if they have not arrived within 60 days after completion.

The current GAF program guidelines authorize Certified Plus contractors to offer System Plus and Silver Pledge. Golden Pledge is for Master Elite contractors; we do not advertise or offer Golden Pledge under this credential.

Which protection comes with your roof?

Warranty names sound alike. Here is the practical difference to look for in your written proposal.

01 / PRODUCT COVERAGE

Start with the shingles.

GAF limited warranties cover qualifying products under their written terms. A qualifying Timberline roof with at least three qualifying GAF accessory products may also qualify for Roofing System coverage on those accessories.

02 / ENHANCED SYSTEM

Add system protection.

System Plus can provide a 50-year Smart Choice Protection Period and covered tear-off and disposal when necessary. It does not add GAF workmanship coverage.

Choose Silver Pledge.

Silver Pledge includes System Plus benefits and limited coverage for certain installation errors. GAF lists 10 years for HDZ and 15 years for UHDZ workmanship coverage.

These are summaries, not a promise of coverage. The installed products, registration and dated GAF warranty determine eligibility, covered work, exclusions and remedies. “Lifetime” is GAF’s defined limited-warranty term, not a prediction of roof lifespan.

FORTIFIED Roof™ is an IBHS program designation.

GAF PRODUCTS + IBHS FORTIFIED ROOF

More than a shingle. A stronger roof plan.

Selected GAF shingles and components can be used in a roof designed to meet FORTIFIED Roof requirements. The details extend beyond the visible shingle: sealed roof deck, stronger edges, enhanced deck attachment, and qualifying ventilation must be planned and documented for the specific home.

TBAR Roofing is listed as Compliant, and Tracy Gibbs as an Active roofer provider in the IBHS FORTIFIED provider directory. We can discuss a GAF roof system and a FORTIFIED Roof plan together.

A GAF product or warranty alone does not give a home a FORTIFIED designation. Installation must meet the applicable IBHS standard, and an independent Certified FORTIFIED Evaluator must verify the work. Insurance incentives depend on the property, insurer, and program; none is guaranteed.

WHAT TO ASK BEFORE YOU SIGN

Get the roof details in writing.

Use these questions to compare estimates. A good contractor should be comfortable walking through the scope and the documents.

Which exact shingle?

HDZ or UHDZ? What color and package designation? Is the Class 3 or Class 4 label actually shown on the selected product?

What makes it a system?

Ask for the names of the starter, underlayment, leak barrier, ridge cap, ventilation and other accessories in the scope.

Which warranty is included?

Ask for the warranty name, written eligibility, required components, registration plan and any exclusions.

What about flashing?

Confirm which flashing will be replaced, reused, or excluded—and which covered flashing locations Silver Pledge addresses.

How will ventilation be handled?

Ask what is present, what the roof design needs, and whether the proposal changes intake or exhaust ventilation.

What records will I get?

Keep the signed proposal, final product list, change orders, completion documents and GAF warranty registration together.

Short answers to the questions homeowners often ask when comparing GAF systems and warranties.

Can a GAF Certified Plus contractor offer the Silver Pledge Warranty?

Yes. We are GAF Certified Plus and can offer the Silver Pledge Limited Warranty on qualifying GAF systems. The proposal and registered warranty will identify the exact products, requirements and coverage.

Is “Lifetime” coverage the same as a lifetime roof?

No. GAF defines Lifetime as the period while eligible original owners (or a properly transferred subsequent owner during the defined period) own a qualifying single-family detached residence. It is a limited warranty subject to terms, exclusions and proration rules.

Does WindProven mean unlimited wind damage coverage?

No. WindProven is a 15-year limited wind warranty with no maximum wind-speed limitation, but eligibility requires LayerLock-labeled shingles, specified GAF components and installation conditions. The WindProven coverage applies to the qualifying shingles, not every roof component or all storm damage.

Does Class 3 or Class 4 mean hail-proof?

No. UL 2218 ratings are laboratory classifications for specifically labeled packages. They do not promise hail-proof performance, and GAF says hail damage is not covered under its limited warranties.

Is UHDZ automatically the better choice?

Not for every homeowner. UHDZ has a more dimensional appearance and different labeled product features. Compare the installed scope, budget, color, package rating and applicable warranty for your home.

When do I receive warranty registration?

GAF says the contractor handles registration for enhanced warranties. If you do not receive the warranty and registration within 60 days after installation is complete, GAF says to contact them.
