Choose your roofer with better questions.

A useful roofing proposal explains what will be installed, how the work will be managed, and what happens if hidden damage appears. Use these questions when you compare estimates.

Compare the scope before comparing the total

Ask each contractor to identify removal, disposal, decking allowances, underlayment, roofing materials, flashing, ventilation, and cleanup. Check whether two prices describe the same work. A product name by itself does not describe a complete roof system.

Make communication part of the plan

  • Who is your contact before, during, and after installation?
  • How will weather changes affect the schedule?
  • How will landscaping, driveways, and access be handled?
  • How are concealed decking damage and change orders documented and approved?
  • Who coordinates any required permits and windstorm inspections?

Ask for the documents

Request current insurance documentation and references relevant to the work. Review payment terms and the written proposal before signing. Manufacturer coverage and contractor workmanship coverage address different things; ask for the exact terms that apply to your project.
